Commercial Range and Hood System Shipping
Ranges are heavy and hoods are large, thin-skinned, and awkward. A hood system also includes ductwork, filters, and often a fire suppression system that has to be handled by the right people. We plan the range and the hood as two jobs that arrive together.
Disconnect and prep
A licensed technician should cap gas lines and remove power. Hoods come down after the exhaust fan and make-up air are disconnected. Fire suppression systems must be discharged and disconnected by a certified technician, and we schedule pickup around that work. Clean grease from hoods and filters before they are wrapped.
Draining and loose parts
Remove grates, burner caps, oven racks, and grease trays from ranges and pack them separately. Take hood filters out and ship them in their own box so they are not bent by the hood itself.
Crating and palletizing
Ranges ship upright on a heavy skid, strapped, with doors and knobs protected. Hoods are long and thin, so they are blanket-wrapped, edge-protected, and ride flat on a pallet or in a crate to keep the stainless steel from denting or bowing. Ductwork sections are bundled and labeled.
Liftgate and inside delivery
Ranges often exceed liftgate ratings, so plan on a dock or a forklift. Hoods can be longer than the truck door is wide, so give us the length. We can carry and place both inside the kitchen, though hoods and ducts are installed by licensed contractors.
Insurance
Our providers carry cargo insurance, and a certificate of insurance is available on request for buildings and auction sites that require one.
Domestic and international
Ranges and hoods move nationwide, and a full line can ship in one coordinated delivery. Overseas, units are crated, our licensed customs broker handles paperwork, and gas conversion and voltage should be confirmed first.
What to tell us before pickup
A range and a hood system are two different jobs. The range is dense, and the hood is long and awkward, with ductwork and a fire suppression system attached. Tell us what is coming out and what is staying, and we will plan separate handling for each piece.
- Range size, number of burners, and whether it has an oven base
- Hood length, and whether ductwork or a fan is included
- Whether the fire suppression system has been serviced and discharged by a certified company
- Hallway, door, and elevator measurements at delivery
Frequently asked questions
- Can you remove the fire suppression system?
- A certified technician must discharge and disconnect it. We coordinate pickup timing around their visit.
- Do hoods ship flat?
- Yes. They ride flat, wrapped and edge-protected, so the stainless steel does not dent or bow.
- Can the range and hood ship together?
- Yes. We schedule them on the same move and deliver them to the kitchen together.
